The Positive Health Program's primary care clinic is located at 995 Potrero Avenue (at 21st Street) on the sixth floor of Building 80 on the San Francisco General Hospital campus.
The Ward 86 clinic is one of the oldest and largest HIV/AIDS clinics in the United States, the result of a collaborative effort between the San Francisco Department of Public Health and the University of California San Francisco Department of Medicine's Medical Service. It is an internationally recognized center of clinical excellence and standard-setter for HIV care and the pioneer of important medical and scientific advances.
The PHP treatment model includes an emphasis on outpatient primary and specialty HIV care, rapid availability of routine and urgent care to the patient, psychosocial support through a spectrum of services, integration of patient care with clinical research, and ongoing education for patients, providers and the local community.
Specialty clinics and services available include urgent care, oncology, hematology, dermatology, infusion services, diet and nutrition, neurology, pulmonary, psychiatry, sickle cell, substance use counseling, and women's services including gynecology.
In addition to providing medical care services, the clinic also offers social work staff to assist patients in crisis intervention and management. These professionals provide brief counseling, benefits advocacy, and referrals for community services such as housing, substance abuse and mental health treatment, transportation, home care, and case management.
